Thallus epiphyllous, supracuticular, rounded to irregular, 5–20 mm wide, 8–15 µm thick, pale grey, smooth; photobiont Phycopeltis; prothallus not apparent. Perithecia superficial, prominent, flattened-conical, usually not covered by a layer of thallus, 0.3–0.5 mm diam., greyish black to jet-black. Perithecial apex ± subacute. Involucrellum black, carbonaceous, extending to exciple base level, 15–25 µm thick. Exciple hyaline to brown, 8–15 µm thick. Centrum 0.15–0.35 mm diam. Paraphyses simple. Asci elongate-cylindrical, 25–40 × 4–6 µm. Ascospores 1-septate, fusiform-ellipsoidal, uniseriate to irregularly biseriate in the ascus, slightly constricted at the septum, 9–12 (–14) × 2–3 µm; cells not separating. Conidiomata: 1) superficial, ±conical, black, 0.1–0.2 mm diam., containing 0–1-septate bacilliform macroconidia 8–12 × 1.5–2.5 µm; 2) superficial, black, 0.07–0.15 mm diam., containing simple narrowly ellipsoidal microconidia 3–5 × 1.5–2.0 µm. | ||
Occurs on the leaves of rainforest trees and shrubs in eastern Qld; pantropical (including Christmas Island). | ||
